Vehicle Description 1979 Plymouth Volare Station Wagon Why This Car Is Special Over the two decades between 1960 and 1979, America's view of what a compact car was had shifted dramatically, multiple times.
Initially they were austere cars, with minimalist powertrains and few creature comforts.
The 1979 Plymouth Volare Station Wagon, like the one we have here at Skyway Classics, was not that type of car.
It turned out that Motor Trend Magazine picked it as the 1976 Car of the Year in 1979 there was 44,085 Volare station wagons were built.
This wagon is one of them.
Mechanical It is powered by a two-barrel equipped 145 horsepower, 225 cubic inch Super Six engine which was an upgrade from the standard one-barrel engine.
It has power steering, brakes, air conditioning, and it looks like everything else in the engine compartment looks factory stock and original.
Interior The interior is in a blue theme with its matching front bench seat and rear seat, dash, carpet, door panels, and floor mats all in that blue color.
It has again the look that everything is factory stock on the interior.
Exterior These are the kind of cars no one restores.
A family would use them, they'd rust out, and then they'd be junked.
To find a Volare wagon thats unrestored is very unusual, especially a blue one as most were beige or green.
Ours does have the original wheels and hubcaps with whitewall tires.
Conclusion The 1979 Plymouth Volare Station Wagon we have here at Skyway Classics may need a little love, but it is all there and very unique.
It will make someone a good daily driver that you just do not see on the street anymore.
