Vehicle Description 1970 Red Chevrolet SS El Camino What Makes This Car Special Chevrolet El Camino is a coupe utility vehicle that was produced by Chevrolet between 1959-1960 and 1964-1987.
Unlike a pickup truck, the El Camino was adapted from a two-door station wagon platform that integrated the cab and cargo bed into the body while production resumed for the 1964-1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform.
Most collectors think the 1970 El Camino like the one we have here at Skyway Classics is the most desirable body style of all.
It received sheet metal revisions back then that gave the bodies a more squared-up stance and the interiors were also redesigned.
This 1970 Chevrolet El Camino has been restored with a much bigger big block powerplant, bold red paint with white stripes, and plenty of Super Sport attitude.
Mechanical When you lift the hood on our El Camino you will find a built 496 cubic-inch monster big block Chevy V8 engine packing a whole lot of horsepower and torque, let alone looking amazing sitting inside the sharp painted and detailed engine compartment.
The 496 motor has a chrome Holley performance dual-line four-barrel carburetor on top of the aluminum intake, big tube headers leading back to the dual exhaust system with turbo type mufflers and rear dumps, performance spark plug wires, chrome open air cleaner, huge Chevrolet logo valve covers, performance distributer, power steering and brakes, as well as air conditioning.
The column mounted automatic transmission is built for performance and shifts smoothly and if you look through at the undercarriage photos, you'll see a fresh presentation that also includes upgrades, it sends the power back to the 12-bolt rear end that, modified with ladder bars, heavy duty shocks and springs.
It also has the right stance with the Boss grey 5-spoke mag wheels all around with fat black wall performance tires on all four.
Interior A true muscle machine always has a black interior and this one has a well-done restoration consisting of the front black vinyl bench seat with headrests, matching door panels and dash, black carpeting, air conditioning, an AM/FM stereo system, spoke chrome sports steering wheel, factory gauges and auxiliary gauges are crisp and clear.
Exterior The 1970 El Caminos share the same single-year front end as its Chevelle sibling, and the iconic look will always be in demand.
Our restoration has a Torch Red paint with great luster, fine body fitment.
White stripes over the cowl-induction hood, hood pins, the blacked-out SS grille and rear panel, the new chrome bumpers, trim, and even protective bed liner in the truck bed.
Conclusion The very nice 1970 Chevrolet SS El Camino we have at Skyway Classics is very well done and will make the new owner a great cruiser to add to the collection.
It is a very strong runner with the upgraded 496 cubic inch engine and matching drive train and looks and sounds great too.
